Born on July 4, 1989. He spent his childhood by playing soccer and turning down girls. He had the ambition of becoming a Physical Education Teacher. He never once dream of becoming an idol until the day he was hooked up watching a documentary show - that happens to be MTV’s Big Bang Documentary. From that day on, his perspective in life changed. He realized he wanted to be someone his parents would be proud of, and someone that people could recognize as a great artist and be their inspiration.
At first, his parents disagree about it. He had a hard time convincing his parents to send him in a Music School. However, after pleading numerous times — his parents finally supported him. He was soon fond of playing the piano. He taught himself to play the instrument and got no help from any classical genius. His first practice song was Richard Marx “Now and Forever”, he didn’t have the MR so he learned himself the piano code by the ear. He can play while singing.
He soon started his audition at JYP Entertainment. He sang “One Last Cry” by Brian Mcknight and luckily got the spot as a trainee. He soon found himself in a reality show together with his co-trainees called Hot Blooded Men or simply called as Hot Blood. It is a show for their debut preparations but he was excluded along the course of the show. He was left out and his co-trainees was formed into two groups and debuted as 2AM and 2PM. Lessons learned from the fall down - this man’s passion became stronger.
He was transferred to JYPE’s sister company - Cube Entertainment. His specialization are rapping, singing, and beat-boxing. On his pre-debut days, he was featured as a rapper on AJ’s (Kikwang) “Wipe the tears” with Yong Junhyung. The company decided to merge Kikwang to a group. Fortunately, the group B2ST was formed with six talented members. He was appointed to be the group’s leader (refer to the MTV beast documentary) and they had their debut stage on October 16, 2009 with their debut song ‘Bad Girl’.
He became part of Danbi and debuted as an actor too through ‘More charming by the day’ and ‘All my love’ with BEG’s Gain and long time friend 2AM’s Jo Kwon. He was crowned as the Nam Chin Dol which means “Nation’s Boyfriend Idol” because of his boyfriend material capacity.
He was angry when netizens sent them messages saying that they are just a recycled group that deserves to be trashed. He was hurt and afraid that it would take effect on the members self-esteem so he told the others not to check the internet anymore.
He is a leader in his own way that checks his people’s health and feelings. He considers ones word and reflects through it. When having a discussion within the group, he let everyone talk before he make his own comment.
Since he looks so manly, many people mistake him as a manly person when he is actually the most sensitive member and easily driven to tears. He is someone who does not hide his feeling of happiness or sadness.
He cried when they had their first win for ‘Shock’, He cried twice at their concert while singing ‘When the door closes’ and ‘Clenching a tight fist’ - He is a man with full emotions. We don’t know how many times he cried off camera whether because of success or failure but one thing is for sure, he does not hold back.
He loves doing charity works and likes children. He is a very competitive person. Like really really a competitive one, he would do anything just to win a game. He get so stressed out or his face would scrunched up when he lose a competition. Failure will never be his best friend and to him, failure doesn’t mean quitting.
He loves soccer so much that he wants her girlfriend to be a fan of it too. He likes girls that know how to play soccer, well manner, pretty personality and likes his parents.
He is also an overprotective brother. He left a message for his elder sister’s boyfriend that he should take care of his sister and love her more than he love his sister.
He got an aegyo that always fail - probably this is the hardest thing for him to do. Whenever the members ask him to act cute, he always end up being embarrassed and red.
When he laughs, his eyebags will show as it squishes his eyes until it was gone. He always hit the nearest person to him and clap his hands to death while laughing.
The word “dooface” and “doopose” became famous because of his various derp facial expressions and identity pose that has been captured by many b2uties around the world. His all time favorite phrase is “I babo, you babo, everyone babo”. He is a babo (stupid), indeed.
He believes that he is only great when he is with his group members. He feels complete when they are around him and he treat them as a family. As a leader, he never judge his fellow members mistake yet he let them work it themselves. According to other members view of him, he is a very calm leader. He doesn’t nag and never once use hurtful words at them. He don’t go overboard and he understand each of them. He is said to be the group’s Father.
He gave yoseob a doll on his birthday because he thinks that yoseob is an adorable kid.
He always have this habit of peeking at other member’s body and likes to annoy Junhyung the most. He is a pro in cheating the members with paper-rock-scissors game. He declared himself invincible.
He is a leader who wants best for his members. The one who promised to take care of them and promise to be with them until he can - which he meant for life.
He is the type of person that couldn’t get enough of sleep because of his work. Sometimes, it is best for him to skip a meal than to be late for a program or taping. He gets so worried over little things like he couldn’t sleep well when he heard about Hyunseung, Junhyung, Dongwoon, Kikwang and 4Minute’s Gayoon and Jiyoon were about to take their college entrance exams.
And lastly, he never once forget to say “Thank You” to all of their supporters. The 2nd gif, it was from their Beautiful Show Concert. He was crying and couldn’t even finish the song. The fans started to chant “Uljima!” meaning don’t cry but it brought him more tears and so he mouthed a quick “Thank you”, bowed and then saluted at them.
